Just a thought…

Hello everyone! Tiffany and I trust that everything is going well in your lives. We are so excited about the upcoming marriage retreat. The worship is ready, the food has been ordered, the books are available, the hotel is waiting, and sessions are going to be great! I know that the next week will be crazy as many of you will gear up to leave either for the retreat or for a family get away for spring break.

I remember one year when Tiffany, the boys, and myself were getting ready to go to Florida, Tiffany was packing the suitcases and making sure the house was clean before we left, while I went to the bank, paid some bills, washed the car, got the oil changed, called work a dozen times to make sure everything was in order, and finally got home to help pack the car. We left on the road and remembered that I left my wallet on the counter so we turned around. After a few minutes we headed back out and passed a gas station just as the boys said they needed to go to the bathroom. You know the feeling… complete organized chaos. After 20 minutes at the gas station and 20 dollars in overpriced drinks and chips we left for Florida. We began to drive towards the interstate, when Tiffany asked me if we needed to stop by Wal-Mart to buy some batteries and sun screen, since it would be cheaper in town. Sure… I said, and we pulled over and went inside. Two hours from our first time of departure we turned on the interstate and headed to our destination.

Sometimes life can get crazy. When we were kids, all we thought about was fun. We never thought about everything our parents did to prepare to go on vacation or all the details that they had to get in order before we left. We thought you just pack up as fast as you can and leave. No worries, no fear, just fun.

If you are traveling this week whether to a retreat or a vacation, don’t forget to allow yourself to be a kid again. As adults we often get caught up in everything we must do and forget to enjoy doing what we are doing. As you pack, prepare, and travel during this spring break be a kid again and have some fun. Maybe even on the drive call your parents up and tell them thank you for some of the vacations they took you on as a kid and all the pre-travel chaos they endured in making your trip as fun as they could. Finally, thank God for the blessing it is to be able to pack up and go somewhere for fun! May God bless you and yours this spring break, enjoy.

Have fun,
Michael and Tiffany
