Remember

I was watching a movie the other day and it reminded me of the first time Tiffany and I went out on a date.
I remember being so nervous, my hands were sweating and my legs a little weak as I knocked on her door for the very first time. Just as I finished knocking, her father answered the door and invited me inside as he questioned me with the usual banter of a father who is looking at a young punk kid, ready to take his daughter out on a date. After answering the questions, the best that I could, Tiffany’s dad allowed his daughter to go out with the boy he just met. The date of that night was June 30, 1998. I remember it like yesterday! Wow, how time flies but yet remains still. Now, almost eleven years later, I wake up every morning wondering what I did to deserve such a beautiful bride. So many things have happened since that day almost eleven years ago. Two children have been born, grandparents have died, emergency room visits at 3 am have taken place, prayers have been cried out, sickness has destroyed, lessons have been learned, and life has been lived. The thought I would like for you to remember is on that first date with your spouse or during that moment when you realized they were the one. Remember what it was like to be amazed by the wonder and uniqueness of who they are. Often times, when life takes it toll, we forget why it is that we fell in love with our spouses. We tend to try and change them into the mold that we desire them to fit, instead of allowing each other to be who God made us. It is a privilege to be used by God to help our loved one become all that God desires for them. It is God who is the potter and us who are the clay. Sometimes, He allows us to help and sometimes we tend to get in the way. Remember, what it is to look into the eyes of your husband or wife and see them again for the first time and then look again and see them once more with the love and compassion that Christ has for them.
Don’t forget to remember!
