Register for Real Issues

First of all, we want you to know how excited we are that you are pursuing premarital mentoring. It is such a crucial foundation for a strong marriage! Marriage Today offers a wonderful premarital program led by mentor couples that have strong marriages and have a passion to walk with couples like you through this season in your life.

The premarital mentors are not licensed counselors. They are Christian men and women who, we believe, demonstrate both maturity in their relationship with God and wisdom in their marriages. Our mentor couples have been married at least five years, have participated in extensive training, and have had the opportunity to observe the premarital mentoring process at Marriage Today. They also attend regular, ongoing training and supervision in which they continue to learn about a variety of topics pertaining to marriage and preparation for it.

The following are the prerequisites for couples who would like to participate in the mentoring program:

  • You are currently engaged.
  • One of you is a regular attender of Valley View Church.
  • There is at least three months from the time you contact us until your wedding date.

The reason three months is required is for your benefit. If the mentor couple discovers any areas in which you and your fiancée need further work, there is plenty of time to do so apart from being consumed with wedding details. All too often, engaged couples invest more time in planning their wedding than they do in preparing for marriage. This allows you to focus completely on one another and your relationship.

If you meet the prerequisites, please complete the questions at the end of this form and submit it. Because of the demand for premarital mentoring at Marriage Today, you may be placed on our waiting list. Please be aware that getting on the waiting list does not guarantee that you will be able to go through the mentoring program. We will do our very best to accommodate you the best we possibly can. When space opens up in the program, you will take the FOCUS Inventory online and receive additional forms for each of you to complete and return to the marriage coordinator. You will receive between six and eight mentoring sessions. You will be matched up with a mentor couple once your forms are completed and payment has been received.

If you do not meet the requirements, but want premarital counseling, we have a referral list of licensed Christian counselors who use materials that are similar to what we use at Marriage Today for premarital mentoring. (Click here to view the Valley View Church counseling referral list.) They are trained to administer and interpret the FOCUS Inventory tool. If you decide to contact one of the counselors we refer, you will need to request that they give you this inventory if you want it.
